Description

This is a competition entry by :iconlylat-legacies:in which I entered.
First of all, I apologise for the length of this story but this is one of my first (or last) attempts at fanfiction and I wanted to try and be clear about the story's events.
In summary ,this is about my OC Ursula Dimitriv and one of her first major missions when she joined the Tundran Military (a faction)on Corneria.
NOTE: This fiction is Non-canon to the Starfox universe

It was no surprise when Sergeant Kovax ,a brown husky was informed that a young recruit was assigned for the operation. What surprised him was what she achieved not too long after joining the Tundran military. Born on her Nordic Cornerian homeland of Tundruidia,Ursula Dimitriv was at the top of her class in the military academy. The sergeant studied her profile in his office and it wasn’t too long after he read it when he spoke with his assistant that she would be a suitable candidate for the operation. However his assistant objected.
“I understand that this mission could be suicidal. You know how we must not allow our involvement to be compromised; otherwise the Cornerians will retaliate with force.” he stated. “I mean she’s only sixteen.”
The sergeant hesitated” I understand but she has potential and commitment values, which are rarely seen within the Corps these days. I believe that she would be a great asset to our team. She may even be able to increase their chances.”

***********
Since the team got into the research facility undetected, Ursula kept an eye for any hostilities. The young female bear knew that their presence would do more other than alert the authorities. Their objective was simple; infiltrate the Cornerian Research Facility and sabotage its main supplies. It was rumoured that that very facility was developing a new weapon which was against the Cornerian Treaty established at the end of the Lylat Wars. She had to make sure the mission succeeded.

“Get my own back at the Cornerian military“ she thought.
That’s all that she could think. Even thinking about them made her get so full of anger and hate.
When she was a little girl, her parents were killed by Cornerian soldiers, who mistook them for conspirators. She heard that the man who led the investigation was a Cornerian officer known as Captain Shears, Someone she knew she would never forget. Fortunately a sympathetic hound took care of her until she got to an age where she could join the Tundran forces. She wanted to do a better job than those Tundran soldiers who failed to stop Captain Shears’ unacceptable investigation.

Wearing body armoured suits, which did not identify their nation, the four began to plant two detonators on each of the two large containers on the outskirts of the facility.
Kovax prepared to arm the detonator but as he did, a lone soldier on the main facility road was off his normal patrol path and noticed the team. The soldier stopped; stunned in shock and disbelief after realising that they were planting a bomb.
Ursula could not allow him to compromise their position. She quickly picked up her rifle and prepared to fire at the fleeing grunt, She took a shot at the grunt in the back, wounding him. However to Ursula’s surprise, he staggered towards the alert button and triggered the alarm before he fell to the ground and moved no more. The alarms ringed throughout the facility and she could see oncoming Cornerian land vehicles carriers in the distance and troops dispatched from them.Just as the four team members took cover behind barricades , Ursula looked at the timer for the detonators and saw the hand at the 5 to position.
5...4...3...2.…1.…
Kovax gave a gesture and the team jumped over to the opposite side, exposing them selves to the firing.
But before the Cornerians could lift a finger, a loud deafening boom was heard as the canister, which Ursula and her team planted detonators on, exploded. Fallen debris rained down on the soldiers who were close to it, just as black smoke rose up into the air from where the canister last stood. As their numbers began to dwindle, Ursula began to fire back at the broken reinforcements and in turn so did the team members.
There was a loud bang then Ursula felt a hard object hit her at the back of her head. She fell to the ground where the debris from the main canisters lay and all went black.

***************

Ursula woke up in a medical bay, which she didn’t recognise but by her side she saw Kovax who had a few stitches on his head. She could also see some blood, which had dried up.
“Sergeant, How did I end up here.” asked Ursula, looking up at Kovax.
“I understand that you must have a lot of questions.” replied Kovax.
“You are onboard the Eternal one of our main cruisers”
“Where are the others?”
“They are all ok. You however are lucky to be alive.
“What happened with the mission?
Kovax turned to Ursula sitting up in her bed.
The husky hesitated. “The mission was a success but…”
His voice faded
”Some of our Intel was inaccurate. Apparently there were civilians injured as well as personnel in that facility.”
“What?” Ursula exclaimed sitting up quickly.
“They gave details in a news read on national television. They’ve said it was an accidental explosion. I guess if they gave the people word that the facility’s sabotage was the work of Tundrans, there would have been uproar. I guess just classifying it as an accident clears it up.”

Ursula felt so frustrated; not only were civilians were injured but the Cornerians, the very people who swore to protect them, lied about the incident on television.
Kovax “I know it must be very upsetting to hear that, but you must understand. This is what can happen when you joined the marines.”
Ursula took a slow deep breath.
“Don’t worry sergeant, I know that. I’m not going to let this incident be the end of me. I chose to be a soldier and I’m going to keep it. This wasn’t the first time I’ve slipped past death…nor was it the last.”
